Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, has canvassed a deliberate shift toward agro-industrialisation, alongside strategic investments in youth and women empowerment as critical levers for sustainable development in Jechira land.
She spoke at the maiden edition of Jechira Day held in Vandeikya, Benue State.
Addressing a cross-section of stakeholders during the roundtable discussion on the topic, “Unlocking the Economic Potential of Jechira: Pathways to Prosperity,” Dr. Adagba stressed the need to transition from subsistence agriculture to agro-industrial value chains, particularly highlighting the untapped citrus economy of Konshisha as a viable gateway to industrial growth, employment generation, and revenue diversification.
The two-day event attracted a distinguished array of Jechira sons and daughters, including Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
Speaking at the grand finale on Tuesday, the governor commended the Jechira Development Association under the leader of Prof. Vitalis Akase, for the revival of the cultural event, describing it as a timely intervention in fostering unity and progress. He noted the vast human and natural endowments inherent in Jechira land and pledged the State Government’s continued support for agricultural advancement, particularly through the distribution of fertilizers to farmers in the current farming season.
In a moment of honour and recognition, Dr. Adagba, was conferred with the prestigious award of Illustrious Daughter of Jechira in acknowledgement of her remarkable contributions to the revival and advancement of basic education in Benue State. She received the award alongside other distinguished sons of Jechira, including Chief Solomon Iorpev, Prof. Sylvester Lyam, Chief Edward Ashiekaa, Emmanuel Tor Yaji, and Barr. Stephen Akpehe, among others further underscoring a collective commitment to the growth and transformation of Jechira land.
Other dignitaries at the grand finale included Sen. Gabriel Suswam; Chief (Mrs) Grace Ashi Wende, Tor Jechira , HRH Edward Ujege, Ter Kunav, Chief Nyiyongu Achiaku, Acting Ter Kyôr, Chief Emmanuel Akpoghol, Prof. Gabriel Akume, Chief David Iorwashima Amoh, Rev. Fr. Chief Emmanuel Doki, Dennis Guda, Chairman Vandeikya, as well as other JECHIRA clergy, academics, professionals and traditional rulers among others.
