…Kill policeman, 2 others, attack police station, raze health centre

Suspected bandits  went on  rampage in  Kastsina State on Sunday, killing a police officer and two motorists.

The marauding terrorists also attacked a police station in Matazu Local Government , during which the policeman lost his life.

The hoodlums had earlier blocked the Karadua–Musawa Road where they opened fire on an oncoming Volkswagen Golf car, shooting two persons.

Governor Umaru Radda Dikko on Sunday visited the Sayaya community where the hoodlums razed the primary healthcare facility in the community.

“During the visit, the Governor condoled with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and officers over the death of the policeman and extended his sympathies to the families affected by the violence,” a Government House statement said.

A separate statement yesterday, by  Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said,“the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, has deployed additional operational assets to the area to strengthen security and prevent further attacks. An investigation has commenced with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.”

Meanwhile, police in Borno have buried four of their  personnel killed last Saturday in a terrorists attack at Ngazai in the northern part of the state.

The remains of late Inspector Samuel Ezekiel of Nganzai Division; Inspector Sanusi Mohammed of 58 PMF Lafiya, Police Constable Bitrus Luka of Crack Squad BRS, and Police Constable Shaibu Bukar of Crack Squad BRS, were laid to rest on Sunday according to the Borno State PPRO, ASP Nahum Daso.

“The solemn interment ceremony took place at the Kawar Maila Burial Ground and the Maximum Prison Burial Ground, Maiduguri, in accordance with religious rites.”

The death of the  policemen underscores the fluid security situation in Borno and parts of Yobe and Adamawa states as terrorists intensify attacks in these areas.

Early Sunday morning, suspected Boko Haram terrorists raided Awapul, a remote community in Chibok LG of Borno State as residents were sleeping. The terrorists burnt houses and destroyed other property before fleeing the community. The attack came a day after a similar incident in Dapachi area of the state. A vigilante was felled in the attack.
