The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Chidi Ebere over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
Command spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the incident occurred around 7:00 am on Wednesday, April 8.
Babaseyi said the 27-year-old suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.
“A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene.
“The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” the statement reads in part.
Babaseyi disclosed that the suspect was apprehended immediately, while the motorcycle and the knife used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured that justice would be served.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
