I agree with President Trump totally. “Pregnant women should not take Tylenol,” as he said. Let me paraphrase that “pregnant women should not take Tylenol (acetaminophen) unduly.”

Yes. We have a standing medical rule, ‘No pregnant woman should take any medication without doctor’s clearance, or prescription, especially within the first trimester (14 weeks) of pregnancy.

Yes, because medical practitioners are afraid of repeating the “Thalidomide Disaster.”

I shall not explain that; please assist me and google it. I know the internet’s is aflame, berating President Trump for this innocent medical advice, because he added that consumption of Tylenol could lead to a child developing autism.

You know I had, discussed autism severally. If I have time and space I shall give a summary review of the medical disability called autism. Do you know that scientific research has shown that majority of autistic children grow up to become geniuses. I shall come to that later.

I know not all autistic children are considered brilliant, the perception stems from specific cognitive strengths in many individuals with autism, such as intense focus, exceptional memory, detail – orientated thinking, and unique perceptions, that can lead to prodigious talents in certain areas. I shall give examples later.

The Western media are falling over themselves trying to prove President Trump wrong. They are especially outraged that he could be making such an outlandish medical advice with The Secretary for Health, Robert Kennedy Jr, standing beside him with a straight face. They would be damned they exclaimed.

Wait a minute; let us go back to the early 70s when the panadol advert debuted. We should remember that panadol (paracetamol) or Acetaminophen (Tyleno) are the same and one drug.

Both drugs are chemically the same – (8H9NO2.  Note that the drug is called acetaminophen (Tylenol) in the United States and Japan, and paracetanol (panadol) in Africa, Europe and most of the world.

In the 70s the advert for panadol was “Take panadol 2 tablets 3 times a day, if symptoms persists after 3 days consult your doctor”. Medically brilliant and coined by Africans.

Now the West is fast catching up. I was bemused last night as I watched CNN (Dr Sangay Gupta), Aljazeerah and BBC  televisions, call up their medical experts to either repudiate or support President Trump’s assertion on Tylenol.

Most of them went back to re-affirm, what African doctors new four decades ago. That Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or paracetamol (panadol), should be taken in moderation especially for pregnant women.

There was an argumentative riot in both the print and television media. They were falling over themselves to correct President Trump insinuation. Quatotion galore

“Trump blames Tylenol for autism. Science doesn’t back him” –Dr John Hamilton in New York Times.

“Trump claims – No Downside to Avoiding Tylenol During pregnancy. He is wrong” – Dr Madison Czopek.(Poli Fact Newspaper)

Then BBC came with a more detailed exposition which it titled.

“Fact-checking claims Trump made about autism.

“US President Donald Trump has attracted condemnation from health experts, after he sought to claim that, there was a link between the widely used painkiller, Tylenol and autism.

Accompanied by his Health Secretary, Robert F Kennedy Jr, Trump said doctors would soon be advised not to recommend the drug – called Tylenol or paracetamol in some other countries, including the UK – to pregnant women.

The claims have been attacked by medical experts: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists said the announcement was “unsettling” and not based on “reliable data”.

While the UK’S National Autism Society called Trumps statement “dangerous”, saying it is anti-science and it is irresponsible.

BBC verify – has looked at some of the allegations Trump and Kennedy made during their news conference.

Then the White House fired back in aggravated offensive in defence of Trump. They titled their defense.

Fact: Evidence Suggests link Between Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and Autism.

The Trump administration does not believe popping more pills is always the answer for better health – there is mounting evidence finding a connection between acetaminophen (Tylenol) use during pregnancy and autism – and that is why the administration is courageously issuing this new health guidance.

Additionally, the Trump Administration is approving a new treatment option that has been found to improve some autistic symptoms. President Trump pledged to address America’s skyrocketing rates of autism and his team is deploying Gold Standard Science to deliver on this pledge.

We will not be deterred in these efforts as we know that millions across America are grateful – Press Secretary Karoline Leavit.

Facts – According to White House – Evidence suggests acetaminophen (Tylenol) use in pregnant women, especially late in pregnancy, may cause long-term neurological effects in their children.

Large scale cohort studies – including the Nurses’ Health Study II and the Boston Birth Cohorts – report associations between in utero exposure and later diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Scientists have proposed biological mechanisms linking prenatal acetaminophen (Tylenol) exposure to altered brain development and adverse birth outcomes.

Adrea Baccarelli MD, Ph.D, Dean of the Faculty, Harvard T.H. Chan School, of Public Health: “Colleagues and I recently conducted a rigorous review, funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), of the potential risks of acetaminophen (Tylenol) use during pregnancy – we found evidence of an association between exposure to acetaminophen (Tylenol) during pregnancy and increased incidence of neurodevelopment disorders in children.

Harvard University: – using acetaminophen during pregnancy may increase children’s autism and ADHD risk.

John Hopkins University: – taking Tylenol during pregnancy is associated with elevated risks for autism and ADHD.

Mount Sinai – Mount Sinai Study supports Evidence That Prenatal Acetaminophen (Tylenol) use May Be Linked to increased Risk of Autism and ADHD.

In 2021 an international consensus statement highlighted “a call for precautionary action” recommending that pregnant women “minimise exposure” to acetaminophen (Tylenol) “by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time”.

Now,  the American Society of Medical Practitioners are preparing their own fireworks to counter most of these President Trump aligned postulations.

So the fireworks continue, you know I am a voracious reader, so I am bound to keep all of us posted. Let the research continue.
