The Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Professor Ganiyu Olatunji, has urged the federal government not to abolish the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in favor of the proposed National Education Fund (NELFUND).

In a recent statement, Olatunji emphasized the crucial role TETFund plays in supporting educational institutions across Nigeria. He argued that scrapping TETFund could undermine ongoing projects and investments in infrastructure, research, and faculty development.

Olatunji called for a collaborative approach to enhance funding for education rather than replacing existing structures. He expressed concerns that transitioning to NELFUND without proper planning could disrupt the progress made in the tertiary education sector.

As discussions continue, stakeholders in education are urged to consider the implications of such changes and prioritize the stability and growth of Nigeria’s educational landscape.
