Lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly have urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to prioritize the completion of abandoned road projects across the state, with particular focus on the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road in Igbogbo Bayeku, Ikorodu. The road, which was awarded in 2017, has been left unfinished and in a deteriorated state, causing severe distress to the local community. The situation was highlighted by the tragic incident during the last rainy season when a student was swept away by floodwaters while attempting to cross the road.

Lawmaker Aro Moshood, who represents Ikorodu II, raised the motion at the plenary, stressing the urgent need for the government to direct contractors to resume work immediately. He also called for government agencies to allocate 60% of the required funds to contractors and to ensure their security to facilitate the swift completion of the project.

Other lawmakers, including Sa’ad Olumo (Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1) and Ganiyu Okanlawon (Kosofe I), supported the motion, with Olumo emphasizing that sufficient budgetary provisions had been made for road projects despite rising material costs. Okanlawon called for the enforcement of strict measures against contractors who fail to deliver on their commitments and requested a briefing from the Commissioner for Works on the status of all ongoing and abandoned road projects in Lagos.

The House, under the leadership of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to take immediate action to ensure the completion of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road and other stalled road projects to alleviate the challenges faced by residents.
