President Bola Tinubu has approved significant funding for the expansion of 12 River Basin projects across Nigeria to enhance irrigation farming and strengthen food security.

Musa Kwankwaso, Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, announced the approval in a statement on Saturday. He emphasized that the initiative reflects Tinubu’s commitment to national development, particularly in the northern region, through agricultural advancement.

According to Kwankwaso, the expansion of the River Basins will significantly boost food production, reducing hunger and improving agricultural sustainability. He commended Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Appropriation Committee, for ensuring the budget’s approval, reinforcing his alignment with Tinubu’s administration.

Kwankwaso also highlighted that the revitalization of the River Basins would support irrigation farming, helping Nigeria achieve food self-sufficiency. Additionally, he expressed gratitude for the allocation of N150 billion in the 2025 Appropriation Bill for constructing a railway line in Kano City, which is expected to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, and drive economic growth.

He further praised the administration’s focus on infrastructure, noting that the 2025 budget prioritizes revitalizing hospitals and improving healthcare services. Tinubu’s efforts to stimulate economic recovery were evident in the budget’s allocation of additional funds for upgrading over 12 dams to support irrigation farming.
