Armed robbers stormed the Awolowo Hall of Residence at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of Saturday, stealing valuables worth thousands of naira from students.

According to multiple sources, the robbers took mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and other belongings during the raid, which lasted for several hours. Some students were reportedly tortured by the attackers.

A source revealed that security personnel responded after hearing the students’ screams, leading to the arrest of some suspects. Those apprehended were handed over to the police at Sango Police Station for further investigation.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Joke Akinpelu, confirmed the incident, stating that reports from the hall wardens indicated that students’ mobile phones were stolen.

Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
