A leading voice in the Southwest, Evangelist Hon Banji Omotosho, a chieftain of the Oduduwa Cultural Group, has raised serious allegations against members of Nigeria’s National Assembly, accusing them of mismanaging funds allocated for constituency projects following the removal of fuel subsidy.

Speaking through the Oduduwa Integrity Association (OIA), Omotosho stated that contrary to widespread public belief, the hardship currently experienced across the country is not the fault of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but rather the failure of some lawmakers to utilize the subsidy palliatives for their intended purposes.

“Nigerians should know that it is the legislative members who are pocketing their subsidy projects’ money, not Mr. President,” Hon Omotosho declared.

According to the OIA, reliable information received indicates that the federal government had ensured an equitable distribution of post-subsidy funds, channeling resources to local governments, state administrations, and particularly to federal legislators, with some reportedly receiving allocations running up to ₦1 billion each for constituency development.

“The president has done his part by removing the subsidy and making the funds available for grassroots development,” the group noted. “Any region that effectively utilizes these funds will see significant improvements and relief. Unfortunately, most of the suffering faced by the Nigerian populace stems from non-performance and corruption at the legislative level.”

Hon Omotoso Banji commented on Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s effort, reiterated that he has done his part in making sure that things are on place. All public-serving governments should account for their stewardship.

In a bold move, the Oduduwa Integrity Association announced plans to independently audit and inspect all constituency projects across the Southwest.

“As a body rooted in integrity and cultural responsibility, we will commence a thorough inspection of all federal constituency projects in the region. We will publish the names of those who have performed well and expose those who have failed the people,” Omotosho stated.

He further revealed that the group would not hesitate to take legal action against underperforming lawmakers, stressing that public funds must be accounted for.

This development comes amid growing concerns over transparency in government spending and the rising cost of living in Nigeria since the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023.
