The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is underway following the surrender of controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced on Wednesday that Portable voluntarily turned himself in at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba. He was later transferred to Ogun State for further investigation.

Police Confirm Investigation

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed Portable’s arrival at the SCID in Abeokuta at 1:23 pm. She reassured the public that due process would be followed and urged against the spread of unverified information.

“His presence at the SCID is connected to an ongoing investigation. The command assures the public that due process will be followed in handling this matter, and updates will be provided as necessary,” Odutola stated.

When asked about the next course of action, Odutola emphasized that Portable’s case would be treated like any other, saying, “Police will investigate. Portable is a Nigerian and should not be made to seem too important.” However, she did not confirm when he would be arraigned in court.

Background of the Case

Portable was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command after reportedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—during an enforcement operation at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.

According to reports, Portable’s father initially informed the officials that his son was unavailable. However, moments later, the singer allegedly arrived armed with a firearm and, along with nine others, attacked the unarmed officials. The victims sustained injuries but managed to escape and report the incident to the authorities.

While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, the singer fled the scene and ignored multiple police invitations, prompting a court order declaring him wanted.

Portable’s Defense and Mental Health Claim

Portable addressed the allegations in an Instagram video, claiming he was being set up for wearing a vest featuring the image of Ogun West Senator Adeola Solomon, also known as Yayi. He also asserted that he suffers from mental health issues and is receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.

“I fear the government. I am a federal government liability. I am a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients,” he said.

“I am from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief; I help people around me without even looking at their background,” he added.

Legal Proceedings Against Portable’s Associates

Meanwhile, the nine arrested associates of Portable have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta. They were charged with felony, assault, unlawful restriction, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The defendants—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—pleaded not guilty to the charges.
