MTN Nigeria has apologized to customers following backlash over the 200% increase in the price of its popular 15GB data bundle.
Subscribers were outraged after discovering that the weekly plan had jumped from N2,000 to N6,000, sparking widespread complaints on social media.
MTN Acknowledges Mistake
In a message shared on Thursday, MTN admitted its mistake, taking a lighthearted and conversational tone:
“We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle… We could share several reasons, but omo, all that one na story. We don cast. Let’s just say na mistake.”
‘Forgive and Forget’ – MTN Appeals to Customers
MTN urged subscribers not to hold a grudge, saying:
“In this love season, don’t stay angry with us. Please forgive and forget.”
NCC-Approved Tariff Increase Sparks Industry-Wide Concerns
While MTN is the first telecom provider to increase prices, Airtel and Globacom are expected to follow suit after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved a 50% tariff hike in January.
However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the move, demanding an immediate reversal.
