In a surprising move on Thursday, the Education Minister, Maruf Tunji Alausa, conducted an unannounced visit to King’s College, located in TBS, Lagos. His visit highlighted ongoing issues at the school, including a significant eight-month power blackout that has affected daily operations.

The Minister arrived at the main campus at 7:30 a.m., taking a tour of the classrooms and other key facilities. During the inspection, the untidy state of the environment and the lack of electricity were pointed out. The Vice Principal, Shittu Y. S., informed Minister Alausa that the school had been without electricity for over eight months, following the collapse of the school’s generator in December.

In response, King’s College had taken temporary measures, including purchasing backup generators for classrooms and the dining hall and installing an inverter in the hostel. However, it was noted that the Junior Secondary School annex on Victoria Island still enjoys a regular power supply.

Minister Alausa’s surprise visit to King’s College underscores the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges in educational institutions, particularly regarding essential services like electricity.
