A five-year-old boy on Monday allegedly set a duplex building on fire while playing with match sticks in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The occurrence happened at Abiodun Adebiyi near, off Yidi Street, Irewole range Ilorin within the Ilorin West Neighborhood Government Zone of the state.

The witness, who distinguished himself as Lanre Abdulrazaq, and said that he was doing humble work within the zone, said, “We took note that thick smoke was overflowing out of the building; we raised the alert to sensitize individuals around for a protect operation. “We did not know the cause of the fire but afterward we saw the fire advancing and contained the fire.”

In any case, the representative for the state fire benefit, Hassan Adekunle, who affirmed the fire, said the occurrence was caused by a five-year-old boy who was playing with matches that he unwittingly dropped on a combustible fabric that raised the fire.

Adekunle, a vital fire officer and head of Media and Reputation within the state fire benefit, in an articulation issued on Monday night said, “Preliminary examinations uncovered that the fire was caused by a five-year-old boy playing with matches, who accidentally dropped a lit stick on combustible fabric, touching off the flares.

“On Monday, 3rd February 2025, at around 17: 32 hours, the Kwara State Fire Benefit got a trouble call with respect to a fire flare-up at Abiodun Adebiyi Near, Off Yidi Street, Irewolede Range, Ilorin.

“Our brave firefighters sprang into activity, arriving swiftly at the scene to discover one room in a five-bedroom duplex immersed in flares.

“Through sheer mastery and specialized exactness, the group worked intensely to contain the fire, guaranteeing it did not spread to other rooms or adjacent buildings. Much obliged to their remarkable aptitude and coordination, as it were one room was influenced.
