A tragic road accident in Niger State has claimed the lives of four people, while 13 others sustained injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on Monday along the Agaie-Lapai road and involved a head-on collision between three trailer trucks, reportedly caused by speeding. One of the trailers was transporting cows and goats, resulting in the deaths of 15 cows and over 20 goats when the driver attempted a risky overtaking maneuver.

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp message, stating that his team and volunteers were actively involved in the rescue efforts.

“NSEMA has received a report of a road crash that occurred today, 3rd February 2025, in Agaie LGA along the Agaie–Lapai road, near Al’Farma International School Agaie. It was a head-on collision involving three trailer trucks, one of which was carrying cattle and goats. The accident was attributed to wrongful overtaking.

“The unfortunate incident claimed four lives—two victims died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

“As of the time of this report, 13 injured individuals have been taken to Agaie General Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, NSEMA’s desk officer in Agaie, along with volunteers, participated in the rescue operations,” Baba-Arah stated.
