The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates. A total of 43,923 candidates, or 67.55% of those who sat for the exam, scored credit and above in a minimum of five subjects.
Moyosola Adesina, the acting Head of Public Affairs, shared in a statement that out of the 65,023 candidates who participated in the exam, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) achieved credit and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a significant improvement from previous years, showing a 9.35% increase compared to the 42.16% and 44.29% successes in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The exam, which included both paper-and-pen and computer-based modes, took place across 5,067 centres. Among the candidates, 31,504 were male and 33,519 were female, with females slightly outnumbering males at 51.55%.
WAEC confirmed that the results for 62,354 candidates (95.90%) have been fully processed and released. However, 2,669 candidates (4.10%) are still awaiting their results due to errors in their submissions. Additionally, 2,577 candidates (3.96%) had their results withheld over allegations of examination malpractice.
Candidates whose results were withheld are advised to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal to make official representations regarding these allegations.
