Ademola Lookman made a dramatic return from injury, scoring for Atalanta but also missing a crucial penalty as Club Brugge secured a 3-1 victory in Bergamo on Tuesday, sealing their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16 with a 5-2 aggregate win.

The reigning African Player of the Year had been sidelined since late January with a knee injury but wasted no time making an impact. Introduced at halftime with Atalanta trailing by three goals, Lookman found the net within 35 seconds of his arrival.

Moments later, Atalanta seemed poised to close the gap further when a VAR review ruled that Christos Tzolis had fouled Juan Cuadrado inside the box. However, Lookman’s penalty was superbly saved by Simon Mignolet, who later denied Mateo Retegui as Club Brugge maintained their defensive solidity.

Atalanta’s frustration grew late in the game when captain Rafael Tolói was sent off for a reckless challenge on Maxim De Cuyper. Club Brugge capitalized on their advantage to see out the contest and end their seven-game winless streak away to Italian teams (D2, L5).

The defeat prolongs Atalanta’s wait for back-to-back home wins in the Champions League, while Club Brugge now looks ahead to a potential clash against either Lille or Aston Villa in the next round.

Milan 1-1 Feyenoord (1-2 Aggregate)

Meanwhile, AC Milan crashed out of the competition after a 1-1 draw against Feyenoord at San Siro, losing 2-1 on aggregate despite an early equalizer from Santiago Giménez.

Milan started brightly as Malick Thiaw’s cross set up Giménez, who scored just a month after leaving Feyenoord. The hosts dominated the first half, with João Félix and Rafael Leão both forcing crucial saves from Timon Wellenreuther.

However, Milan’s momentum stalled in the second half when Theo Hernández was sent off for simulation, leaving them with ten men. Feyenoord capitalized on the advantage, with Hugo Bueno delivering a pinpoint cross for Julián Carranza to head home the decisive goal.

The result means Feyenoord progresses to the next round, while Milan’s Champions League campaign ends in disappointment.
