Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has urged Nigerians to embrace golf as a means of staying fit and healthy.

In a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH, Oyinlola highlighted the health benefits of golf, emphasizing that the sport promotes overall well-being and longevity.

His remarks came during an 18-hole Golf Kitty tournament held in honor of his 74th birthday. The event saw participation from prominent Nigerian golfers, including the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states, Chief Olatunde Badmus; former Osun Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo; former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke; and retired Justice Jide Falola, among others.

The statement further emphasized the importance of regular physical activity, noting, “Engaging in consistent exercise and participating in sports is crucial for maintaining good health. Playing golf, in particular, strengthens the heart and keeps it healthy, as it involves movement of the entire body. Walking through the course while breathing in fresh air exercises various muscle groups, contributing to overall well-being.”

Oyinlola acknowledged the demands of a busy lifestyle but encouraged people to make time for fitness, citing golf as an effective and enjoyable way to stay active.
