The Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide has rejected an invitation to attend the City Boy Movement rally scheduled to hold in Owerri. The rally aims to welcome Seyi Tinubu, son of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The group made its position clear in a statement. It said it will not participate in the planned event. According to its leaders, the decision reflects the council’s focus on issues that affect Igbo youths directly.
Group Explains Its Position
However, the council stressed that its mission centers on youth welfare and regional development. Therefore, it prefers to concentrate on advocacy and policies that improve opportunities for young people.
In addition, the group noted that political organisations have the right to hold rallies. Nevertheless, the council believes its efforts should target programs that address unemployment, education, and economic growth.
Furthermore, leaders of the organisation said their activities promote unity and empowerment among youths in the South-East. As a result, they chose not to take part in the rally.
Details of the Planned Rally
Meanwhile, the City Boy Movement plans to hold the rally to mobilise supporters in the region. Organisers say the event will also welcome Seyi Tinubu during his visit to Imo State.
Supporters have already begun preparations for the gathering. In addition, political allies and youth groups from different parts of the South-East are expected to attend.
The organisers believe the rally will strengthen engagement with grassroots supporters. They also hope it will build stronger connections with young people in the region.
Focus on Regional Priorities
However, the Ohanaeze Youth Council insists that regional development must remain the priority. The group urged political leaders to focus on issues affecting young people.
For instance, it highlighted unemployment, insecurity, and poor infrastructure as major concerns. According to the council, these challenges require urgent attention.
Therefore, the organisation called on leaders and stakeholders to promote policies that improve economic opportunities and social stability.
Commitment to Dialogue
Despite rejecting the invitation, the council said it remains open to dialogue. It encouraged engagement with government officials and stakeholders on issues that benefit the South-East.
Moreover, the group emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in national development. It said meaningful discussions can help address regional concerns and promote progress.
Ultimately, the decision reflects the council’s effort to remain independent in its activities. At the same time, it continues to focus on advocacy, youth empowerment, and development across the South-East.
