Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide observed a solemn remembrance of its penultimate President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, over the weekend in Enugu.

Chief Iwuanyanwu, who passed to higher glory in an Abuja hospital in July 2024 at the age of 82 while in office, is celebrated as an outstanding Igbo leader. He was passionately committed to placing Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the mantra of organisational turn around and strong reckoning.

In his speech, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbat, commended Chief Iwuanyanwu’s unwavering dedication to the service of the Igbo nation.

Recalls Mbata, “Chief Iwuanyanwu believed strongly in Igbo resilience and greatness. Above all, he defended the Igbo cause, unity and excellence; a struggle he was championing from the forefront till he passed while in active service for Ndigbo”.

He stated that as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide reminisced on the legacies and impact of Chief Iwuanyanwu, a year after his departure, the Igbo nation prays for the continuous repose of his soul in perfect peace.

Ezechi Chukwu, Ph.D, is the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
