The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has called for stronger collaboration between security agencies and private firms in the fight against crude oil theft.

Operational Visit to Tantita Security Services

During an operational visit on Thursday to the facilities of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) in Warri and Gbaramatu Kingdom, Audi emphasized that no single security agency has a monopoly on strategies to combat crude oil theft effectively.

He commended Tantita’s efforts, stating that Nigeria’s crude oil production capacity has improved significantly due to their collaboration with the Federal Government.

“Even though Tantita is not the only private security company engaged for oil pipeline surveillance, they are doing very well as far as I am concerned,” Audi remarked.

Strengthening Collaboration

The NSCDC Commandant-General affirmed that his visit was aimed at cementing the relationship with Tantita and ensuring continued cooperation to curb oil theft.

“We will continue to collaborate with Tantita because the goal is to reduce crude oil theft to the barest minimum, or even eliminate it completely,” he said.

He also highlighted that no agency can single-handedly combat crude oil theft, making Public-Private Partnership (PPP) engagements crucial in securing Nigeria’s oil assets.

Tantita’s Impact on Oil Security and the Environment

In his welcome address, the Managing Director of TSSNL, Chief Kestin Bondi, noted the significant improvement in crude oil production and the restoration of aquatic life in the Niger Delta due to enhanced security operations.

“As of today, we have surpassed two million barrels per day in crude oil production. Our waters are now clean, and people can fish again,” he stated.

Bondi also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for ensuring a level playing field for private security firms assisting in the fight against oil theft.

The Chairman of Tantita Security Services, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), expressed his appreciation for the visit, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil resources.
