Thursday, August 21, 2025, is Prof. Regina Chinwe Onwuchekwa’s day with history. On that day, the erudite scholar from Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government, Imo State will dazzle an array of academics and students of the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), as well as other invited guests, with rare medical revelations when she delivers the institution’s 201st inaugural lecture titled: “Unraveling the Mystery of Gray Shadows, Pains of the Head and Low Back.”

The event will take place at the CBN Centre of Excellence Building, University Park, Abuja Campus.

Prof. Onwuchekwa, of the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Uniport, has 30 years’ experience in medical practice and 24 years’ experience as an expert in Radiology and as a university lecturer.

An inaugural lecture is an epoch-making event in the life of an academic, marking the attainment of the peak of their career. It is a rare honour, giving the academic the opportunity to speak to the world about their achievements in research and academic activities that earned them the enviable rank of professor.

As a medical practitioner and lecturer in the College of Health Sciences of the University of Port Harcourt, with a specialty in Radiology, Prof. Onwuchekwa rose to the rank of Professor of Radiology in October 2018.

Speaking on her forthcoming inaugural lecture, the scholar invited people from all walks of life, including her Akokwa kinsfolk, to grace the occasion and tap into her rich medical knowledge and background. She said:

“On August 21, 2025, I am coming out to speak to the town and gown on my achievements in research. I invite each and every member of Akokwa Professionals to come, be with me, and hear from me what I have been doing in the past 24 years as a Radiologist and lecturer in the medical school. It will be a hybrid event. Those not in Port Harcourt can join me online. The link will be posted once ready.”
