The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on all radio stations in the country to actively promote climate change awareness and its impact. In a statement released on Thursday, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, emphasized that radio stations should leverage their platforms to educate and inform the public about the changing climate.

Speaking on the occasion of World Radio Day, the Minister highlighted the critical role of radio in disseminating knowledge and tools to help communities adapt to climate change. He urged stations to collaborate with organizations and experts to deliver accurate and reliable information through interviews with scientists, environmentalists, and policymakers.

Idris further aligned the initiative with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscoring the importance of engaging communities to address climate change. The Minister encouraged individuals to adopt eco-friendly practices such as reducing plastic usage, conserving energy, and promoting sustainable agriculture as simple but impactful actions to fight climate change.

He also reminded citizens that the effects of climate change extend beyond borders and affect the entire globe. With the celebration of World Radio Day, Idris expressed the need for Nigerians to join forces with other nations in finding solutions to environmental challenges and securing a better future for upcoming generations.

The Minister concluded by calling for the full utilization of radio’s power to raise awareness and contribute positively to environmental preservation.
