The Federal Government has pledged to ensure a stable power supply throughout the holy month of Ramadan to support Muslim worshippers during fasting.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu made the commitment in his Ramadan message, acknowledging the energy needs of Nigerians, particularly during Suhoor (pre-dawn meal), Iftar (post-sunset meal), and Taraweeh (nightly prayers). He assured that the ministry is working tirelessly to provide stable electricity during Ramadan and beyond.
“As the Minister of Power, I am acutely aware of the challenges that many Nigerians face, particularly in the area of electricity supply. I understand that the observance of Ramadan often requires increased energy consumption. I want to assure the Muslim community that the Federal Ministry of Power is working tirelessly to ensure a stable and reliable power supply during this holy month and beyond,” Adelabu stated.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving power infrastructure, tackling grid instability, and expanding electricity access nationwide to enhance the quality of life for Nigerians.
Adelabu urged citizens to adopt responsible energy consumption practices, such as turning off unnecessary lights and using energy-efficient appliances, to ease the burden on the national grid. He linked energy conservation to environmental stewardship, aligning it with Islamic teachings of responsibility toward Earth’s resources.
Beyond electricity concerns, Adelabu described Ramadan as a period of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and renewal. He encouraged Muslims to engage in the recitation of the Qur’an, acts of charity (Zakat and Sadaqah), and community service to embody the true essence of Ramadan.
He also called for national unity and harmony, urging Nigerians to foster peace and tolerance regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
“To our Muslim brothers and sisters, I urge you to take advantage of this sacred month to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development. Let us beseech Allah to guide our leaders, strengthen our institutions, and bless our nation with abundant resources and opportunities,” he prayed.
