In a passionate appeal to the Federal Government, Child Advocate and Convener of Christy Ray Okoye Foundation,Lady Christy Ray Okoye has called for immediate reforms to address the pressing issues facing Nigerian children, particularly in the realms of education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

During the Children’s Day Fiesta and Field Trip to the Lekki Conservation Centre organized by the foundation for over a hundred vulnerable children in Lagos,  Okoye expressed concern over the alarming increase in child hunger, driven by insecurity and inflation.

The current state of education in Nigeria is alarmingly low compared to global standards, leaving many children without access to basic educational resources.

Advocating that education should be made free and accessible to all, ensuring that every child has the right to quality learning and the chance to thrive.

In addition to education reform, the call for adequate healthcare is paramount. Okoye emphasized the necessity of providing comprehensive healthcare from birth, advocating for a system that prioritizes the health and well-being of Nigerian children.

Moreover, the issue of youth unemployment is dire, prompting many young Nigerians to seek better opportunities abroad. By creating more jobs and supporting vocational training programs, the government can help keep young talent within the country.

She added that the collective cry from advocacy groups highlights the urgent need for the Federal Government to implement policies that guarantee basic rights for children, acknowledging that investing in the youth is synonymous with investing in the nation’s future.
