Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

Atiku criticized the move, describing it as a dangerous assault on Nigeria’s democratic values and a serious threat to governance and electoral integrity. He expressed concern over reports that the DSS operatives were enforcing a leadership change within the Assembly, questioning the legality of their intervention.

He also accused those involved of hypocrisy, stating that individuals who once positioned themselves as democracy advocates were now undermining the same principles they once defended.

Atiku acknowledged that leadership disputes are common in democratic institutions but insisted that armed security forces should not be used to resolve parliamentary conflicts. He described the DSS’s involvement as an “anathema” that must be urgently addressed.

Furthermore, Atiku criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly interfering in state affairs instead of focusing on Nigeria’s broader challenges, urging him to address the country’s pressing economic and governance issues.

In response, the DSS defended its actions, claiming that its deployment to the Lagos Assembly was based on an official request from the legislature due to security concerns.
