Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) unwavering commitment to youth development and quality education during the Joint Passing Out Parade of the Air Force Military School (AFMS) and Air Force Girls Military School (AFGMS) in Jos Plateau State
The occasion, which also marked the 45th anniversary of AFMS, celebrated the legacy of the institution that has produced over 6,200 graduates who have excelled across various sectors globally.
Reflecting on his time as an instructor at AFMS nearly three decades ago, the CAS underscored the enduring relevance of military-style education in shaping disciplined and visionary leaders. He also praised the AFMS Alumni Association for their impactful contributions to the school’s development.
Highlighting NAF’s growing reputation for academic excellence, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that its schools are among the most sought-after in Nigeria, thanks to deliberate policies aimed at maintaining top-tier standards.
He announced the establishment of new schools in Abuja, Igbara-Oke, and Kaduna, and ongoing efforts to harmonize NAFOWA-owned schools into a unified system. Additionally, the CAS revealed plans for significant upgrades at AFMS, including improved feeding systems and better access to clean water.
A major highlight of the day was the announcement of the revival of a programme to absorb Ex-Junior Airmen and Airwomen into the NAF, offering graduates of AFMS and AFGMS a direct pathway into military service after further training, an initiative aimed at strengthening NAF’s human capital while preserving its core values.
In his address to the graduates, the CAS commended their discipline and precision, declaring them as “the future of Nigeria,” and urging them to lead with purpose and integrity. He expressed appreciation to the schools’ leadership, staff, teachers and instructors of the schools for their unwavering dedication.
He also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and continued support for youth development and military education, stating that “the greatness of any nation lies not only in its weapons but in the quality of its people.”
The event culminated in a vibrant display of parades and a file past that drew loud applause from attendees, including senior military officers, alumni, parents, and well-wishers, highlighting the pride and inspiration that AFMS and AFGMS continue to instill in the future leaders of our beloved nation.
