In a bid to strengthen the aviation sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth, the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has conducted a five-day workshop aimed at enhancing communication skills among Information and Public Relations/Public Affairs Officers.

Held in Calabar, Cross River State ,South South Nigeria, the training gathered 40 directors and officers from the Ministry and its agencies under the theme, “Effective Agency Communication, Collaboration, and Coordination (CCC) in the Highly Complex Aviation Industry.”

According to a statement by Daniel Chibueze Nwagwu, Principal Information Officer, for Head, Press and Public Affairs Unit.the workshop was facilitated by the African Investments and Development Group (AFRIDEG), with Dr. Frimpong Boateng emphasizing the complexity of the aviation sector and the need for coordinated communication to address challenges.

Dr. Boateng highlighted that although agencies operate under different policies, effective coordination can resolve conflicts and improve trust and collaboration.

“Agencies must avoid working in silos and overcome unhealthy competition to foster problem-solving,” said Dr. Boateng, who further underscored the role of technology in driving growth in the aviation industry. He encouraged participants to embrace technology and continually update their knowledge to enhance decision-making and implementation.

Key topics during the training included communication essentials, tetrafunctional communication in aviation, customer service strategies, leadership communication, and emotional intelligence. Dr. Boateng urged officers to prioritize understanding and information sharing over individual prominence for effective public engagement.

Mr. Odutayo Oluseyi, Head of the Ministry’s Press and Public Affairs Unit, lauded the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, for his commitment to capacity building and the ongoing Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He described the training as a historic first for the Ministry, expected to improve information dissemination to the public.

Representatives from key agencies shared positive feedback. Dr. Abdullahi Musa, Director of Public Affairs at Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), said the training would foster synergy and improve results through better communication. Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), praised the initiative for enhancing inter-agency collaboration and expressed her agency’s support to advance the program.

Participants included officers from the Ministry, NAMA, FAAN, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), and Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to improving the aviation sector through enhanced communication, collaboration, and coordination among its agencies.
