The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-hour road closure and traffic diversion for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025. The marathon will run from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, and the route will stretch from the National Stadium in Surulere to Eko Atlantic, passing through key areas like Ikorodu Road, Gbagada, the Third Mainland Bridge, and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
To ensure safety and prevent unauthorized access to the race corridor, concrete barriers will block adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections. Traffic officials from various agencies will be stationed at strategic points to manage the situation.
Alternative routes have been mapped for commuters:
- From Ikeja: Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, Eko Bridge, and Outer Marina.
- From Badagry/Mile 2: Apapa via Orile, Eko Bridge, and Outer Marina.
- From Surulere: Iponri/Iganmu, Eko Bridge, and Outer Marina.
- From Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Ojota Slip Road, Ikorodu Road, and Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge.
- From Okota: Mile 2/Orile, Eko Bridge, and Outer Marina.
- From Sango-Otta: Mushin, Funsho Williams Avenue, and Eko Bridge.
- From Epe-Lekki Expressway: Marwa Junction, Admiralty Way, and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
- From Lagos Island: Apongbon Bridge, Eko Bridge, Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas, or via Victoria Island, Independence Bridge, and Apongbon to Ijora-Olopa and Herbert Macaulay Road.
The Third Mainland Bridge will be closed to traffic heading towards Lagos Island but will remain open for motorists traveling to the Mainland.
Osiyemi urged residents to plan their trips in advance, use alternative routes, and be patient, as these measures are in place for traffic management during the marathon’s 10th edition.
