Two siblings were burnt to death in a fire that destroyed their home in Oluwatuyi quarters, Akure, the capital of Ondo State. The kids, ages three and five, were reported to have been kept inside a room by their mother who went to the market.

The two siblings were tragically burned beyond recognition in the fire incident. Sources indicate that upon learning of the children’s passing, their father fainted and had to be taken to the hospital by neighbors.

Vanguard has reported that the fire broke out around 3:30 PM on Wednesday, consuming the children before any assistance could arrive. A neighbor recounted that the fire had spread widely throughout the apartment before anyone realized what was happening.

Another neighbor remarked that they misinterpreted the children’s cries, stating, “We heard them crying, but we didn’t recognize they were in trouble. We assumed it was their mother disciplining them.”

“When the cries became more frantic, we decided to investigate, only to find the house already engulfed in flames. Attempts to put out the fire and save the children were futile due to the ferocity of the fire.”

“It is possible that their mother inadvertently left the gas on before leaving the home. We did everything we could, but we were unable to get inside. We then called the Fire Service for help, but all our efforts were in vain.”

The burned remains of the siblings were discovered at the doorway of the apartment after the fire was extinguished and security personnel evacuated them to the morgue at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, UNIMED, in Akure.
