From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Bolaji Adeniji, at the weekend, declared that the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial district, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, otherwise known as Yayi, has emerged the preferred choice of all progressive blocs ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adeniji, who stated this while addressing members of the APC in Ota, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state, added that the senator has equally become the rallying point for those seeking a better Ogun State.
He observed that the gravity of politics in Ogun generally has now shifted in the direction of Ogun West and attributed Senator Adeola as the main reason for the paradigm shift.
The APC chieftain added that the growing consensus among the people and politicians in the state is that the senator remains the only person capable of moving Ogun forward from 2027.
“If you take a deliberate look around the state today, you will see a silent coalescing of many political forces and progressive elements around the senator. Irrespective of their political party membership and ethnic affiliations, we see people from across the three senatorial districts of the state daily urging Adeola to declare for the ultimate political spot in the state, he said
Adeniji, who is also the Convener of Ogun West Initiative, noted that the political antecedents of the senator and his unprecedented performance as the incumbent senator representing Ogun West has endeared him to the people from the Ogun East and Ogun Central.
“Yayi’s rising influence and the mounting consensus on him as a governorship hopeful is a reflection of meritocracy and service. As a senator, he has reduced the infrastructural deficit in his district, scaled up social services, empowered thousands of people and continued to build up human capital growth. Instructively, he extended some of these interventions to parts of Ogun Central and East on demand, which woke up the consciousness of the masses in those districts that, if this man is supported to be the governor, his development-focused and people-centric style of leadership, will further transform Ogun State”, he added.
Adeniji, however, dismissed the insinuations that the senator was wooing people to his side with money, saying “those peddling such insinuations are rivals who cannot compete but are seeking the route of subterfuge to strengthen their own position”
“YAYI has an antecedent of service, on the back of which he has been politically promoted by the people’s votes. From a two-term state legislator and now 16 unbroken years at the National Assembly, these couldn’t have been bought with money. When you serve conscientiously and the people see what you do, they give you their trust and support”, he submitted.
